Skis are mounted, trucks are warmed up and the BDS crew have been out and about in the last week catching up with the old familiar faces at the club fields, testing snow and snowpack conditions (of course putting some recreational turns in on the way) Mother Eagle has flown the nest and has been seen putting some tidy turns down Hamilton face at Craigieburn.
However, if sacrificing a lamb would bring us more snow there would be lamb chops on the dinner table this evening. The temp's have dropped in the last three evenings bringing us some crisp frosts to wake up to, the free air freezing level is set to drop to 1600m on Friday a southerley wind flow over the next week will possibly bring light snow flurries on Friday the 9th of July and may continue through to Saturday lunch time. The southerly flow remains constant through to the middle of next week ( 13,14th July) with a possible increased precepitation from the south on Tuesday and Wednesday- fingers are crossed and grill is turned on ready for those lamb chops.
Current avalanche danger in the Craigieburns is at low, a thin layer of cold loose snow exists between a combination of rain, rime and sun crust. Weaknesses may occur under future loading. No recent reports of avalanche occurences.
Although there is not a large amount of snow out there yet, all access tows are running with good coverage, its not epic yet but still skiable and to be honest I had a great day at Craigieburn yesterday... thanks guys.
